Let me explain the name of my blog.
Divertimento is derived from the Italian divertire which means "to amuse". It is a musical genre and the mood of the divertimento is generally light hearted and mainly composed for small ensembles, for social functions. Whilst this blog is not a music blog, I believe this word captures the essence of what I would like to express in this blog. With this blog,I aim to capture reflections about my adopted home, Hong Kong; recipes I have tried and succeeded with and my memorable moments and my musings.
On the topic of recipes - I am neither a professional nor prolific cook but I do enjoy well cooked food. Ocassionally, I dabble in new recipes and I even manage to surprise myself sometimes. From experience, I never use a recipe from a book without first comparing it with several others. It never ceases to amaze me that there can be so many markedly different variations for any particular recipe.Not all recipe books are created equal! Quite often, I find that I have to adjust recipes to suit my taste- and what satisfaction when I get it right! Any recipe I place here is the final product of this process and would have been personally tested at least twice and taste tested by my family and friends.
